is it normal that my dog licks him self all the time?

not only his paws…but his legs, his back, his you know what, his stomach, etc…is tis normal? trust me its not alergies. we thought it was but we got benedryl from the vet. and he still licks. its like a habit of his
OH…AND he even licks the air sometimes!!

If it is allergies, benedryl may not help in a severe case, so don’t rul that out unless you tried testing or food elimination dieting.
Licking is normal, obessive licking is not, it may be a behavioral issue or a sign of boredom. If he starts up, tell him ‘that’s enough’ and try focus his attention on something else, a chew toy, stuffed kong, rawhide, game with you, etc. My itchy boy has allergies, my girlie has been on water restriction, they both learned the meaning of ‘that’s enough’ pretty quickly. Make sure your pup is getting enough exercise for his breed – a herding dog or working dog may need 2 hours or so of exercise a day, not just backyard play, but focus activity such as walking or obedience training. This will help with habits picked up out of boredom. Good luck!
