Felihe Diabetes – looking for other pet owners with experience?
Hi,
My cat was recently diagnosed with diabetes.
He is taking glyburide oral meds 2x a day and eating a high protein, low carb canned food called Purina DM (Diabetes Management). He also has neuropathy in his hind legs and we are giving him Vitamin B12 to help repair the nerve damage.
In 2 weeks, if the oral meds are not working properly to bring down his blood sugars, we will start him on insullin. The doctor has suggested PZI insulin, although I don’t think it’s available in Canada anymore. She thinks Lantus insulin won’t work on him at this point.
If anyone has had experience with feline diabetes and been successful, I would like to hear from you please.
Thank you,
Nicki
I have an old dog with diabetes. We give her Vetsulin shots every morning and she’s doing really well. The vet told us that dogs are much easier to control than cats with diabetes. They aren’t really sure the difference but they just respond better to treatment. Even though cats are harder to treat, there are several different types of insulin to try.
