My cat has feline diabetes. Lately his water intake seems to have increased. Is this ok or another problem?

My cat has been on insulin for a few months now. The vet keeps telling us to increase his dosage little by little to try to find the right amount. Lately however, his water intake seems to have increased even more and he sits next to his litter box a lot of the time. However, his appetite has increased and he seems to be gaining a little weight instead of losing it. I am waiting to hear back from the vet, but thought I’d see if anyone here has any answers. Can anyone help me?

His medication definitely needs to be adjusted, and by the vet – weight gain & drinking a lot are both symptoms of diabetes so the insulin isn’t being effective, and just increasing it “little by little” can’t hit it right. The vet has to test his blood sugar. And the sitting by the litter box may indicate cystitis. Both need to be checked by the vet asap.
