Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome?

Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome (FHS) also known as rolling skin disease, is a rare illness in domestic cats that causes episodes of agitation, self-mutilation, and a characteristic rippling of the skin when touched. It is often described as a seizure disorder but the cause is unknown.

Anyone out there familiar with this disease or have seen it before? My kitty has it…he has an appointment for Tuesday. I just want to know anything from treatment to long term affects of treatment. He has been dealing with it for 6 years now.
Not trying to sound mean (me, myself, and I) yet its all in your name…everything is about you isn’t it? Besides, if u weren’t really trying to sound mean why would you continue to add remarks about thumbs downs and making fun of the “cat is part of the family”…you shouldn’t judge until you have walked a mile in someone else’s shoes.

It’s actually frequently seen (but I wouldn’t say common) in Siamese, so yes, I’ve seen it. Often it can be cured with low doses of a drug like Prozac. No one is really sure what causes it, and as you have read it can range from mild to the self-mutilation – they suspect in those cases that the nerves in the area are hypersensitive. It’s an odd thing, and the worst case I’d heard of involved a cat who kept attacking her own tail. And yes, even this was managed with drugs. Good luck at the vet on Tuesday, hopefully they will find the drug that will work for him.
